Residents and visitors packed the San Agustín park in Coín on Sunday for the XVII Fiesta de la Naranja – Festival of the Orange.
Over 5,000 kilos of oranges were used to produce the two traditional dishes of the day, the ‘hervia’ soup and the orange salad.
The soup, a traditional rural dish apparently dating back to the time of the Catholic Monarchs, contains peppers, tomatoes, garlic and potatoes, and bread from the preceding day. The secret of the salad is cod shredded by hand.
There were all types of activities and entertainment during the day, including cookery demonstrations, a fashion show, crafts stalls and musical performances.
