Basque police have arrested a 50 year-old woman in Muxika for allegedly killing her 83 year-old mother with an axe on Saturday evening.
The woman called the police late on Friday evening to say that she had killed her mother. Police arrived at the home to find the mother still alive but, despite the efforts of medics, she died a short time later.
The alleged killer was duly arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
