The Council has today been meeting with the owners of businesses on El Playazo beach to explain the current state of affairs. Due to complaints received from the owners of the Marinas de Nerja Hotel and some local residents, the Department of Coasts informed the Council that the track at El Playazo was to be closed to traffic and concrete blocks placed at each end.
Even though the track has been used by Nerjeños for many years, it falls within the area of maritime public domain. This was scheduled to take place at some time between June 1st and June 7th.
The Council has been negotiating with the Department of Coasts and the situation as it currently stands is that signs restricting access will be placed at each end of the track. Business owners and plot owners will be granted permission for vehicular access and delivery vehicles will also be permitted to drive down the track.
The Council is planning a large car park at the western end of the beach with access directly from the N-340 and will keep the car park at the eastern end which will be accessible from the track.
