Fuengirola Council has created a Special Plan for the Better Use of Public Roads 2013 which, amongst other things, regulates ‘live’ performances by street artists in public places in the town. The Council plans to issue 15 temporary licences, valid until December 31st, to 7 musicians, 4 portrait painters, 2 mime artists and 2 children’s entertainers.
The Council believes that street artists, like any other activity, must be well regulated and the authorities must be discerning when it comes to the professionalism of the artists. In addition there is, of course, the municipal revenue.
The application period for these temporary licences is from June 6th to June 13th, up to 14:00 each day, and the place to go is the Delegation of Occupation of Public Roads on the first floor of the Town Hall.
After registration, it will be the Department of Culture who will decide who gets the licences based upon an artistic evaluation and demonstration of prior experience, except in the case of mime artists.
Once approved, the artist will need to pay the relevant fees to the Council and in return will receive an ID card, with photo, which must be carried at all times. Artists will be permitted to perform daily from 10:00 to 22:00, extended to 24:00 during the summer season.
