Following an extraordinary meeting of the board of the Nerja Caves Foundation, the Curator of the Foundation has been dismissed for manipulating information with the obvious intention of causing harm to the image and prestige of the institution.
The curator, a member of the governing board, the Standing Committee, the Research Institute and the Scientific Committee, was accused of manipulating information with the manifest intent to cause damage to the image and prestige of the Cueva de Nerja, defaming it and creating a general climate of tension in the workforce.
The votes were 12 in favour of dismissal, 4 against and 1 abstention. The four members who voted against the motion to dismiss did so purely because they judged the punishment to be too harsh. A proposal by the Junta de Andalucia for an alternative punishment of 60 days suspension without pay was rejected as it would reduce the offence to ‘minor’ rather than ‘very serious’.
