The board of the Democratic Memory of the Junta de Andalucia, a dependency of the Ministry of Local Administration and Institutional Relations, has reached an agreement with the Ministry of Welfare to rename the Carlos Haya hospital in Málaga.
The new name for the hospital complex is the Hospital Regional Málaga, with the former Carlos Haya Hospital becoming the Hospital General, and this already appears on the official website. www.carloshaya.net
However, signs on buildings, posters, stationery and other items will only be changed when budgets permit, so it could be a very long time before the old name actually disappears.
The reason for the change is that Carlos Haya, after whom the hospital was named, was an aviation captain who fought for Franco.
The street where the hospital is located is avenida Carlos Haya but there is so far no mention of this also being changed.
