The plenary session of the Nerja Caves Foundation has approved the audit of the accounts for 2012, with a small surplus of €36,057.71. In 2011, the Foundation registered a loss of €193,164.20.
The figures are particularly encouraging as 2012 saw a decrease in revenue of €110,000 and increased amortisation of €224,000 due to the opening of the Nerja Museum. The Nerja Museum received around 16,000 visitors during its first year.
Cost containment has been the key factor in bringing the accounts of the Nerja Caves Foundation back to a state of equilibrium. The management of the Nerja Caves Foundation is continuing with improvements relating to the Nerja Caves, such as more and better information for the visitors, online sales, the introduction of audio guides and participation in a number of promotional events and ventures.
