The National Police have arrested 14 people involved in the smuggling of hashish from Morocco inside boxes of frozen sardines.
The police operation began last January and led to the seizure of a total of 900 kilos of drugs. The 14 arrests were made in Marbella and Puerto de Santa María in Cádiz province.
Over the months of the investigation, police made numerous controls on sardine shipments and storage facilities before finally intercepting a refrigerated truck which, upon inspection, was found to contain both sardines and drugs.
The truck contained 325 kilos of drugs, a further 570 kilos, the rest of a shipment, was discovered still on board a crago ship in Puerto de Santa María.
