Estepa Council in Sevilla province has been ordered to pay €9,951 compensation to a woman who was hit in the eye by a sweet thrown from a float during the Three Kings parade in 2009.
The woman suffered a bruised eye and was off work for three weeks. The woman’s lawyer, José Manuel Blanca, argued that a group of boys aged between 15 years and 18 years were deliberately targeting individuals in a manifestly violent way as they threw the traditional boiled sweets.
The judge agreed, ruling that the Council were responsible for ensuring the parade developed with the required safety standards. He ordered the Council to compensate the injured woman in the amount of €9,951.
