Businesses in Montefrío, Granada, closed for the day on Monday and, in cooperation with the Council, held a protest relating to the wave of robberies hitting the town, despite the fact that the perpetrators are known.
Twenty homes, two businesses and three municipal buildings have been robbed during the past few months by a group of four criminals seeking quick money for the purpose of buying drugs.
As very often happens, the thieves are arrested and then released pending trial. In this way, the thieves now have several trials pending yet are at liberty and continue their trade.
One of those trials is due to take place today, Tuesday, and the citizens of Montefrío want to see these individuals jailed. The Mayor is concerned that if they are not incarcerated, the mood in the town is such that residents may take the law into their own hands.
