Nerja now has Narcotics Anonymous, a non-profit organisation composed of men and women for whom drugs had become a major problem.
Meetings are on Mondays at 20:30 in the Giner de los Rios Centre in calle Diputación and the only requirement for participation is a desire to stop using drugs.
Narcotics Anonymous is not affiliated to any other organisation, has no registration or other fees and is not associated with any political party, the police or any religious group. They are not interested in where anyone gets their drugs, their economic situation or what they have done in the past, their only concern is to offer help to those who wish to kick the habit.
The experience of Narcotics Anonymous is that people who regularly attend meetings tend to stay clean.
