The number of cases of bogus gas inspectors is on the increase in Fuengirola as these individuals seek to take advantage of the elderly and unwary visitors during the summer months.
Some of the ‘inspectors’ are from legally registered companies, although not from the municipality, but are charging the unwary up to €700 for their services.
Gas installation inspections are compulsory by law every five years, but are carried out only when the homeowner/tenant makes an appointment. The only company authorised to carry out gas inspections in Fuengirola is Moreno Rivera and they will never go from door to door touting for business.
Visitors who do not know the rules and the elderly are the most vulnerable to these scams and the ‘inspectors’ can be quite verbally aggressive and intimidating.
If someone knocks at your door and says they are a gas inspector, DO NOT LET THEM IN ON ANY ACCOUNT, whatever they say.
Anyone who has already been a victim of this scam should make an official complaint and request for refund at the OMIC offices on the second floor of the Town Hall in Fuengirola, Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 14:00.
