The Local Police today took delivery of six new police cars, adding to the four they received in June. The acquisition, costing €473,670.72 for 48 months on a lease basis, should have been completed by Easter but was delayed.
The existing police vehicles were completely obsolete and needed urgent replacement, although it in fact took quite a while.
The Council is now looking at using the same system to renewal the police motorcycles and, after the summer, various other municipal vehicles which have seen better days. Financing has been provided by Banco Santander.
With the acquisition of new vehicles, the Council is hoping to extend police surveillance of rural areas.
