The Council is reportedly about to start work on the final phase of the renovation of the old Virgen del Carmen sugar factory in Torre del Mar, a project which has been paralysed for several years.
To date, €2.3 million has been invested in the project and now, with the investment of a further €217,000, it is set to resume. Funding is through the Programme for Promoting Agricultural Employment (PROFEA), naturally, with the contract being awarded to Adriano Construcciones. The completion period is set at three months.
The building was originally intended to house an interpretative centre and a sugar cane museum, but will now be the offices of the future School of Industrial Organization (EOI) as well as having an area dedicated to sugar cane.
