A Public Service Announcement: As a resident in Nerja for over 10 years it has become my habit to use the Carabeo Car Park to park my car. I used it for many years free of charge like many others. When the booth went up and the powers that be began charging for the privilege, I wasn’t too happy but I figured I used it free for a long time.
At one point a few months in, the owners of the Car Park came up with a scheme for local residents to get a reduced rate to park there. I believe it was around €50.00 for THREE MONTHS. I thought that was pretty reasonable for the convenience it afforded me.
Today I went to renew my ticket and was told that the new rate would be €110.00 for ONE MONTH. No exceptions! Living on the Costa del Sol I fully expect to be taken advantage of occasionally, especially in the “High Season”, but today’s episode was indeed highway robbery at its most blatant. And of course the Car Park was less than one quarter full! Just ridiculous. It’s no wonder that visitors to the region are choosing other towns over Nerja.
