For a change, we decided to try the food at the American style Saloon in avenida Castilla Perez. It is a large bar/restaurant, serves Budweiser on draught and has a small street terrace, which is where we plonked ourselves down.
It is a relaxing place, has some interesting seating and it has a pool table. Between us we sampled rump steak, entrecote, beef sandwich, barbecue ribs and a giant hot dog.
I had the rump steak served with chips and Russian salad, €10.00. The meat was good quality and cooked to perfection, absolutely delicious. I also sneaked a bit of the ribs, also excellent.
Unusually, the steak eaters were not asked how they wanted their meat cooked and, although mine came out just as I would have ordered it, I would have to dock them a point for that oversight. People’s tastes in meat do vary from dripping with blood to incinerated and not everyone would always be happy with a ‘medium’.
Apart from that, spot on. The Saloon also does a variety of fish dishes by the way.
