A local resident who was charged €362 in April for a ‘gas inspection’ carried out by a company registered in Málaga made a complaint to the Consumer Information Office in Nerja. The resident said in his statement that he felt deceived and cheated by the ‘inspector’ who came to his home.
Although the rubber tubing on the gas installation was out of date and needed changing, the ‘inspector’ insisted on carrying out a number of other unnecessary tasks.
The Consumer Information Office has now received a response from the company in Málaga in which they apologise sincerely, adding that it is not their policy to act in this way and they have already informed the complainant that someone will be visiting his home to deliver a cheque for €300.
This is apparently a rare case as the vast majority of letters sent by the Consumer Information Office to the inspection companies in such cases are returned by the Post Office as ‘address unknown’ or similar. At least, though, there is a happy ending in this particular case.
