According to a survey of tourist movements published today by FRONTUR, the number of foreign tourists visiting Spain during June 2013 was up by 5.3% on last year at 6.3 million and represents an historical record for this month.
In the first six months of this year, international tourists exceeded 26.1 million, up by 4.2% (1.1 million) on the same period last year.
The UK and Germany continue to be the major markets but it has been an increase in Scandinavian visitors that has accounted for much of the growth.
The Balearics were the top destination in June whilst cumulatively during the first six months, Cataluña was the big winner. According to the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, figures for June have never before reached the six million mark.
Andalucia received 3.4 million foreign tourists in June, up 2.3% on the previous year.
