The number two in the PSOE-A, Mario Jiménez, has emphasised that the formation of a government is the ‘sacred’ prerogative of presidents of the Junta de Andalucia after their investiture, and that no member of his party nor IU Executive coalition partner may set conditions.
Susana Díaz is due to take over as president of the Junta de Andalucia in September following the sudden decision of José Antonio Griñán to vacate the position, although Griñan will remain as PSOE president and regional party secretary.
Jiménez was responding to questions as to whether the formation of a new government will have a ‘wink’ to certain critical groups who finally gave their support to Diaz in the speedy primary election process.
Jiménez continued by stating that a president does not respond to anything that is not strictly in the interest of the citizens of Andalucia and in the interest of the government and is not thinking about the party. He added that the presidents are the heritage of the citizens and, therefore, have to make decisions in the public interest of those citizens.
