The merchant ship ‘Mermaid’ came to the rescue of 21 North African migrants whose small, flimsy craft was having difficulty staying afloat.
The stricken migrant boat was spotted at around 15:00 on Tuesday about 35 miles off Motril. The Maritime Rescue vessel ‘Guardamar Calíope’ then arrived on the scene and transferred the migrants, some of whom could be minors, to the port of Motril.
After receiving assistance from the Red Cross, the migrants were handed over to the National Police for further processing.
