Operation ‘Britania’has resulted in the detention of two British nationals and the dismantling of a sophisticated marijuana plantation in the town of Andújar, Jaén province.
The investigation began in June after police received information via their Twitter profile that there could be a drugs plantation located in the area. A warehouse was eventually located as being the potential site of the plantation and a surveillance operation was set up.
Two people were then detained and a search of the premises revealed a sophisticated greenhouse set-up for the cultivation, drying and processing of marijuana with pressure lamps, timers, irrigation systems and automated fertilizer distribution.
Around 900 plants were seized in the raid and the value of the equipment in the warehouse has been estimated at €30,000. The two detainees are charged with crimes against the public health and the theft of electricity.
