The Andalucia Public Ports Agency, APPA, has decided to put on hold any plans for a marina in the Axarquia and to couple such a project to the new Axarquia Costa del Sol Oriental Ports Master Plan for Andalucia 2014-2020 which will analyse the need to implement such an infrastructure.
This has prompted the Nerja Council to approve a motion asking the APPA to uncouple the marina project and to reconsider Nerja as the location for such infrastructure, considered ‘very important’ and a ‘priority project’ for the future of the municipality.
There have been numerous plans, projects and blueprints for a marina in both Nerja and Torrox over the past twenty-odd years, but none of these have ever come to fruition. Back in 1990, the company Puerto Europa began a project for the construction of a marina – and, of course, thousands of houses and a hotel or two – in Nerja, and in 2007 it was the company ALATEC which was contracted by the APPA to draw up plans for a marina in Torrox.
Now, in a move which appears to have surprised the municipal authorities, the APPA has parked the marina project and coupled it to a new ‘Plan’, a sort of ‘we’ll have a look at it later, maybe’.
