A 7-year-old girl was killed and her parents were injured just after midnight during a shootout between two rival gypsy families in Tres Mil Viviendas, Sevilla. Neither the girl nor her parents are thought to have belonged to the warring factions.
At just after midnight, police received reports of gunfire in calle Luis Ortiz de Muñoz where many gypsies, armed with guns and clubs, had gathered. The young girl was shot and killed during an exchange of fire between two families.
The dispute and subsequent shootout is believed to be as a result of debts owed by one family to the other relating to drug trafficking.
The police had to maintain a presence in the area to prevent further violence. No arrests have yet been made.
