Five players were injured, one requiring hospital treatment, during a beach volleyball tournament on La Misericordia beach in Málaga.
Prior to the start of the competition, part of the Sport Feria 2013, competotors had to clean the playing area, removing a number of bottles and other items from the sand. However, as the tournament progressed, more bottles, glass and even nails came to the surface and five players had to retire with injuries.
Although the Council ‘collaborated’ with the tournament, as Councils do, they didn’t actually organise the event and were therefore apparently not responsible for the cleanliness of the sand.
