The Provincial Fire Consortium has started work on improvements to the temporary Fire Station located near the Burriana roundabout, the project having a budget of €72,700.
The improvement works are being carried out because the Junta de Andalucia has failed to provide all of the agreed financing for the proposed new Fire Park to be located on the Frigiliana road. The Junta has reportedly only provided €3.9 million of the €5.8 million budget needed for the new Fire Park, a project which was agreed several years ago.
The Málaga Provincial Council is financing the improvements to the temporary station and in the meantime, the firemen of Nerja will be relocated to new temporary premises until the work is complete.
An alternative would have been to move the firemen to Vélez-Málaga for the duration of the works, expected to be completed within three months, but Nerja Council said it would prefer them to remain closer at hand due to the increase in population during the holiday season.
