The Council has expressed support for the mother of a pupil at the colegio Nueva Nerja, Piedad Gálvez, who is collecting signatures for the installation of a lift in the premises.
The mother has a son with severe mobility problems and the compulsory First Primary Education Course is taught on the first floor of the building, which means a lift would be necessary.
Piedad Gálvez, like the Councillor for Education, was directed to contact the Ministry of Education but no positive response has been forthcoming. The Council itself has asked the Junta de Andalucia on numerous occasions to install a lift in the colegio Nueva Nerja but without success.
The Council cannot understand why a centre which takes in pupils with mobility problems does not have the facilities, such as a lift, to prevent social exclusion and they will continue to pursue the matter with the Junta de Andalucia.
