A couple have been charged with the temporary abandonment of their children after they left them locked in a car while they themselves went to the beach.
A member of the public alerted the police after spotting a car containing three children in a public car park in avenida del Sol in Benalmádena. Officers found three children, two boys and one girl, locked inside the car with no ventilation, no water and no possibility of opening the doors from the inside.
The Fire Brigade were called to break the window of the car and the children were rescued and cooled down with water as they were suffering from suffocation, dizziness and profuse sweating.
Police then located the parents, a man aged 48 years and a woman aged 39 years, on the beach.
Apparently the children had wanted to go to the beach but to one with pedaloes and not the one favoured by the parents and so had been left locked in the vehicle.
The incident could so easily have ended in tragedy if the children had not been spotted by a member of the public.
