A British woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to skip the vehicle control at the Gibraltar border, running over a border guard in the process.
The woman, driving a Gibraltar-registered vehicle, hit the officer as she tried to avoid the checkpoint. When finally stopped, officers found 2,500 packets of cigarettes in her car, so in addition to criminal charges of assault and severe disobedience, she has also been charged with the administrative offence of smuggling.
The injured officer was treated at the local Health Centre.
