Two forest fires remain active, one on Monte Pindo in Carnota in A. Coruña which has already destroyed 1,900 hectares of land, and a second in the Vincios of Gondomar in Pontevedra.
The fire in Carnota began on Wednesday and initially threatened several urban areas. The fire has become the worst in Galicia this summer, surpassing the August 26th blaze in Oia, Pontevedra, which destroyed 1,850 hectares of land, 1,451 of those being woodland.
Members of the Emergency Military Unit (UME ) , 2 technicians , 28 forest officials , 59 firemen , 27 fire engines , 9 helicopters and 8 aircraft are involved in trying to extinguish the fire.
At least five other fires have been extinguished in the region during the past couple of days, with damage ranging from a few hectares to nearly 600 hectares in a couple of cases. These were in Melide (A Coruña), Porto de Son (A Coruña), Ribasieira (A Coruña), Negreira (A Coruña) and A Fonsagrada (Lucena).
