The Madrid regional premier Ignacio González is reported as saying that the city could lose out on the sprawling Eurovegas casino, conference and hotel complex if the Prime Minister doesn’t act quickly to change the anti-smoking laws.
According to Ignacio González, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy promised on two occasions to push for a relaxation of the anti-smoking laws but has failed to honour his commitment to have this prepared by September.
Alcorcón is the proposed site for this Las Vegas-styled complex which, it is said, will create 250,000 jobs over the next decade. Madrid ‘won’ the award over Barcelona. The project involves a huge investment and is seen as possibly being the biggest investment in Europe over the next few years.
Changes to the anti-smoking laws have apparently not been the only problem to afflict the project in its early stages. The central government has not yet begun to expropriate the land where Eurovegas will be built and financing has been tight.
