A collision between two trains at Sants station in Barcelona has resulted in 22 people suffering bruising and 10 being attended by medics. Two people were transferred to hospital.
The accident occurred at 10:05 during a common manoeuvre known as ‘running on sight’ whereby two trains on the same track, travelling at around 5kph, end up next to each other. Or should do. On this occasion, however, the incoming train failed to stop and hit the stationary train causing minor injuries to some of the eighty passengers.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. The manoeuvre is routinely carried out as a time saving measure.
