The Andalucian Minister for Equality, Health and Social Policies, María José Sánchez Rubio, has reiterated that the Andalucian Government will not apply the co-payment system for medicines for hospital patients and intends to lodge an appeal before the new law is introduced ‘with vigour’ on October 1st 2013.
The co-payment system affects 157 medicines and establishes the payment of 10% of the cost of the drug dispensed to hospital patients with a maximum of €4.20 per drug. This is not per month or per treatment, which apparently means that after thirty days the cost to the patient could be considerable.
The Minister also argues that the cost of implementing the system is more than the savings to be derived.
