The non-payment of grants and subsidies by the Junta de Andalucia, a familiar story these days, is causing problems for a number of organisations working with the disabled, one of these being FEGRADI in Granada.
FEGRADI is reportedly owed in the region of €7 million and some fifteen staff have not been paid for more than a year. Some have struggled on, others have decided to leave.
Staff in such situations are in a legal limbo and are demanding a solution, saying ‘pay us or fire us’. If the employees were to be fired they would possibly be eligible for unemployment benefit and at least have some income. As it is they get nothing, despite being employed, and nothing if they get fed up and leave of their own accord.
