Today was the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for the new underground car park at Burriana beach, a project currently budgeted at around €3 million.
The ceremony was attended by the mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, the Councillor for Infrastructure, Antonio Garcia, spokesmen for the various political parties, president of the AEN Angela Díaz and various technicians and employees of Sardalla Española, S.A., Sondeos, Inyecciones and Trabajos Especiales, S.A., the companies building the car park.
The mayor said the project is a clear commitment to tourism as, in addition to this important and timely infrastructure, a new Tourist Office will be built above the car park.
The foundation stone ceremony includes the burial of an urn containing coinage of the day, newspapers of the day and documents relating to the work contract.
The car park will have spaces for 250 cars and will be the fourth underground facility in the town, although one of these, at Parque Verano Azul, is now a private residents only car park as it proved not to be viable as a commercial proposition.
