The DGT (Directorate General of Traffic) has launched a six day campaign of intensified surveillance on secondary roads in Spain, the Traffic Police conducting checks on speed, alcohol, documentation and the use of mobile phones while driving.
The campaign started on Monday October 21st and continues until Sunday October 27th. A similar campaign in June 2012 resulted in 22,000 motorists being penalised.
Of the total, 8,833 drivers were fined for exceeding the speed limit, 2,810 people were reported for driving without a seat belt and 333 were fined for illegal overtaking.
