A total of 48.8 million visited Spain in the first nine months of this year, up by 4.6% over the same period 2012.
The rise equates to an extra 2.1 million foreign tourists with the Nordic countries and the UK being particularly strong. All markets improved except for the USA, Italy, Netherlands and Portugal which declined by between 0.2% and 9.9%.
The figures were compiled by FRONTUR and published by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.
