The French newspaper Le Monde reported that the NSA spied on 70.3 million phone calls in France in just 30 days between 10 December last year and 8 January 2013, sparking what is being seen as token ‘official’ outrage from the French Government – there are reports that the French Government has been carrying out similar spying operations.
The NSA also apparently captured millions of text messages during this period. World leaders have had their emails hacked, EU offices have been bugged and the spying seems not to differentiate between supposed friends or alleged foes.
It would seem that almost everyone is at it, and the volumes concerned suggest this cannot in any way be terror related or because of legitimate ‘security concerns’, the reasons usually quoted as justification for such acts.
