The olive harvest in Málaga province is expected to yield between 65,000 and 70,000 tons of good quality olives, according to the association of farmers ASAJA.
The harvest in 2012 was particularly low at 44,000 tons, but the previous year it was a record 94,000 tons. The quality of the harvest means better prices for farmers who have so far been witnessing a dramatic drop in income.
It takes five kilos of olives to make one kilo of olive oil.
