The DGT is this week turning its attention to school transport, with intensified inspections of documentation and authorisations relating to vehicles and drivers.
The campaign is part of the annual calendar of the DGT and officers will also be verifying the technical and safety features of vehicles required by law as well as checking that the driver meets the special requirements for such transport. Driving and rest times will also be scrutinised.
It is estimated that 500,000 pupils use the 17,000 school buses each day throughout Spain. Since 2007, the installation of seat restraints is compulsory for vehicles used for school transport.
The DGT campaign starts today, Monday, and continues until Sunday.
