Rincón de la Victoria is the first municipality to stop night collection of rubbish from containers, a move the Council believes will save them €973,000 per year.
Gone are the collections beginning at 22:00, with collections now being made from 06:00. In addition, there will only be one collection truck operating on Sundays instead of the four which were previously making the rounds.
This means that night and weekend bonuses no longer have to be paid, but it also means that the rubbish is now hanging around from 20:00 to 06:00.
As the measure will save the Council almost one million euros, the annual canon paid to the joint venture company Empresa Mixta de Medio Ambiente (EMMSA) has been reduced from €9 million to €8 million.
