The Councillor for the Environment, Nieves Atencia, has been meeting with residents of Cantarriján and representatives from Holcim to discuss quarrying in the area.
Holcim, the company operating the quarry, have committed to repairing damage to the road and are in the process of applying for the necessary municipal building licence.
Residents have asked for security measures to prevent the landslides that occur as a result of the blasting from hitting the road or their properties. The Councillor says she will request a meeting with the delegate for Environment and also try to set up a meeting at the quarry with technicians and a representative from the residents to see if all the necessary security measures are in place and if any improvements need to be made.
However, the Councillor pointed out that the quarrying has all the necessary permissions from the Junta de Andalucia.
