New security measures for processions

The Three Kings parades in the various districts of Málaga will be the first to suffer the consequences of new security measures relating to processions.

The number of processions in the districts of Málaga have been reduced in recent years as parades are combined, but the new rules will force more drastic measures.

Following the tragic fatal accident last year, motorised vehicles will not be permitted on routes containing narrow streets. In many cases this will mean only processions on foot, no huge and elaborate floats, and in some cases it will mean that the Three Kings can only be viewed and met at certain fixed points.

Eleven parades have already taken place this year, but this number can sometimes be double. Or could have been.

Starting next year the Council will concentrating efforts on the processions in the centre of the city, although the route has had to be altered to take into account the new security measures. The floats will be routed along wider streets and will no longer proceed down the narrower ones.

In addition, the barricades on the floats must reach the ground and people under the age of 8 years and over 55 years will not be permitted on the floats.
