The political niggling continues as the UK Culture Secretary Maria Miller taunted Spain by hailing a ‘historic’ football match played between Gibraltar and Slovakia last week after the team from The Rock were accepted by European football’s governing body Uefa.
Spain had attempted to stop the friendly match against Slovakia, which ended in a 0-0 draw, by arguing the Rock was not a sovereign state.
The Minister is now promising to help other Gibraltan teams to compete in international fixtures, a move seen by many as designed to incense the Spanish.
Maybe a friendly fixture between Gibraltar and Ceuta or Melilla would help ease tensions.
