An alert issued by the German authorities via Interpol has resulted in the dismantling of an organisation controlling prostitution on the streets of Estepona.
The women were mainly Rumanian nationals who were captured by the ‘lover boy’ technique – pimps pretending to fall in love with the woman and then persuading them to travel to Spain with false promises of a rosy future together and then forcing them into prostitution.
Many of the women ended up on the Costa del Sol , where they were controlled and subjected to attacks, threats and humiliation and forced to engage in prostitution.
Ten people have been arrested and nine women have been rescued from their life on the streets. The raids also prevented a new plan to kidnap more Rumanian women from being carried out.
