Torrox Council wants to encourage the building of hotels in the municipality and have initially approved an initiative to change the PGOU (General Plan) in order to achieve their objective.
The mayor of Torrox, Francisco Muñoz (PSOE), explained that the town has sufficient residential land available to sustain the needs of the municipality for many years to come, what they need now is hotels.
The plan is to build hotels on land near the mouth of the stream in the area around the lighthouse. This land is currently designated as residential under the 1996 PGOU.
The mayor sees this development as necessary in order to attract tourists to the town, and to will complement other tourism related projects such as a golf course and a marina. He argues that the construction of hotels will bring economic benefits, such as direct and indirect employment and, not forgetting, revenue for the municipal coffers.
The mayor thanked the IU and PSA for their support in a matter deemed beneficial to the the general interests of the torroxeños and torroxeñas while the PP is endeavoring to defend the interests of the banks and of the Episcopal Conference.
