One of the most important crops in Córdoba province is the olive, and the initial expectations were for a harvest in the region of 275,000 tons. However, things never go according to plan.
The Association of Young Farmers, ASAJA, believe that the harvest will be down by as much as 25%, due mainly to weather conditions.
The lack of rain this year means that the harvest can go ahead at full steam, but it has also resulted in a lot of damage, even in irrigated areas.
In addition, the planting of other crops, such as wheat and cereals, has been delayed or proved unsuccessful and the lack of rain has meant that there is no new grass in the pastures and farmers have had to use cattle feed for their animals.
On the plus side, the reservoirs in Córdoba are still at around 83% capacity.
