A total of 170 animals, including dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, snakes and birds, participated in the XIII Pets Contest in Rincón de la Victoria at the weekend.
The event was held on the promenade – paseo marítimo – and even included a Greyhound race on the beach in which a dozen dogs from all over Andalucia took part. The winning owner was José Luis Sincoa Jiménez, a resident of Martín de la Jara in Sevilla province.
There were prizes galore in a host of categories. The event is not only fun but also serves to raise awareness about the protection and welfare of animals and the fight against abuse and neglect.
For the Council it is an important opportunity to disseminate messages such as complying with municipal regulations and removing pet excrement from public places.
