The Mayor of Tolox, Juan Vera (Convergencia Andaluza), is in court in Málaga this week to face fourteen trials relating to the alleged granting of building permits for housing construction on undeveloped land.
The fourteen trials will take place at the Criminal Court Number 8 in Málaga between December 10th and 13th.
There are also eight trials pending in the Criminal Court Number 4 in Málaga, also relating to the illegal construction of homes. In some of the cases, the municipal architect and an external lawyer are also accused of involvement.
In total, some 2,279 illegally built houses are involved, many of the licences being allegedly approved by decree and despite the illegality of the situation being allegedly apparent to all concerned.
Juan Vera was sentenced in September 2012 to a year in jail and eight years disqualification from public office for granting a license for the construction of 17 two-storey houses on undeveloped land, although the sentence was appealed and is still unresolved.
