The Local Government has approved a motion requesting the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of the Junta de Andalucía to authorize an increase in the seating capacity of taxis from the current five to seven places.
The current general regulations for taxis limit the seating to five places, including the driver, with the possibility to extend this to seven places in municipalities where certain conditions are met.
The Council argues that, as a coastal municipality whose population increases significantly during the summer, has numerous urbanisations and an urban nucleus in Maro, the town of Nerja meets many of these criteria.
There have already been technical meetings with the regional authorities who are apparently working to finalise and regulate the criteria necessary for individual municipalities to authorise such changes themselves, but this has not yet been approved.
