There has been a second night of disturbances in the Gamonal district of Burgos with street furniture being burned or damaged and run-ins between the protesters and riot police.
The problems began on Friday night when around one thousand people began a protest march against Council plans to turn calle Vitoria into a boulevard with fewer vehicle lanes and a reduction in valuable parking spaces.
The march turned into a battle with police and 17 people were arrested. Nine police officers were injured and there was serious damage to street furniture in calle Vitoria.
The protesters returned to the streets on Saturday night, although in lesser numbers, to demand the release of the 17 detainees and once again things turned ugly. Riot police battled with around two hundred protesters, mostly young people, with stones being hurled and more street furniture being damaged.
